Actually I must give the real source to this one. It's not from me but from Dale Harris. Dale, if you read this you will have to give your source too and point this site to that person so we can find the real source of his/her joke. Otherwise, in this establishment we know what that means eh!

Hi Marty,
Your thoughts on self-actualization and self-denial caught my eye. Self transcendence (and so self-denial) comes after self-actualization. In Christ we come to know who we truly are, His purpose for our lives, and then can move from what is perhaps essentially narcissistic thinking to being other focused. Is it not a paradox then that as we give ourselves to others we truly find ourselves...

thanks for that marty.

i appreciate the call to love God in holiness rather than "love the world" balanced by the "on the other hand" call to love the world. i wrestle with these metaphors of walking in the light, being the light of the world, and being the salt of the earth. On one hand, as you say, we're wanting to walk "right in the middle" of the light, and "on the other hand", if we are salt of the earth i imagine we've got to be "right in there with the meat and the gravy" (I'm quoting someone there but don't recall who).

May the Spirit guide us in the ways of Christ. By the way I think our faculty models this stuff for us really well.
